The San Diego SBDC  is dedicated to providing the region with dynamic business development programs. These programs aim to support aspiring entrepreneurs as well as boost business growth to already established businesses in our area. All of these programs are available at no-cost or at a nominal fee. SBDC industry-experienced instructors and consultants will help your business reach its fullest potential. SBDC Survive & Thrive Business Series

This series of workshops were developed to help business owners gain insight and expertise on how to build a strong foundation for profitable success. Sessions in this series include: Essentials in Managing Business Revenues; Sales, Procurement 101-Opportunities to Contract with the Government, Import Essentials, and Export Readiness.

International Trade

The SBDC can help you asses if your business is a good candidate for importing or exporting. Visit us to learn more and get help on the next steps to advance into new global markets! The SBDC provides specialized resources in the area of export and import opportunities, regulations, and referrals. The Center also offers regular workshops on international trade topics to help you gain insight in this exciting area of business.

Technology Commercialization

The SBDC is expanding the resources it delivers to technology companies working to transition new products and patents into a successful enterprise. Specialized SBDC advisors have successful in delivering consulting in the area of technology commercialization. Training programs are also available with topics on SBIR/STTR application processes coming soon! Together, these resources are providing a full range of support to technology companies. 

SDSU-SBDC Student Consulting Partnership

If your business has been in operation for three (3) years or more, it may be a prime candidate for in-depth review by a team of SDSU students and SBDC advisors. The SDSU Consulting program teams with SBDC professional consultants with upper division and graduate level business students from San Diego State University. Together through seasoned leadership and new & enthusiastic perspectives, these groups team up to provide strategic recommendations to participating business owners interested in expanding market share, reducing costs, and growing profits. 

Micro-Enterprise Family Child Care Program 

The Micro-Enterprise Family Child Care Program (MEFCP) prepares aspiring Child Care entrepreneurs with academic coursework on child development and SBDC training on how to manage a home-based business including legal requirements. For over five (5) years, the results have been impressive with an over 90% start-up business success rate. MEFCP has created financial sustainability for over 100 participants from low to moderate income backgrounds.  

Vetepreneurs

San Diego is home to the country's largest military population of active and retired veterans. Veterans face both challenge and opportunity in the world of business and the SBDC is committed to helping them succeed. Through Kaufman training and through specialized contracting resources for Veterans, the SBDC has resources to support success.

Kimco Keys

The California SBDC program is working with KIMCO Realty to provide training that enables retail, restaurant, and service-oriented business owners on understanding the various intricacies that go along with operating a business in a commercial building space. KIMCO has special locations where qualified, participating new businesses are provided a no-to low cost rental for a first year. Spaces are going fast. Contact the SBDC for more details.

Capital Access Team

The SBDC is taking financing experts to Main-Street America to help business owners learn where they can find the capital they need to expand operations. This specialized team is tasked with seeking out resources in city and county government, the banking industry, the SBA, and even innovative programs that exist to fund various needs that businesses have. 

GrowFast

The GrowFast program is designed for start-up entrepreneurs and home-based operations that are ready to get licensed, locate a site or franchise opportunity, and/or expand market share. Participants receive guidance by an SBDC consultant (1-5 hours based on stage of business) an education package and free entry to designated SBDC workshops (with advance registration).
